The predominant ethnic heritage in the mountains of Appalachia is Scotch-Irish. Immigrants from those lands took a liking to this place, reminiscent of their own beloved highlands. As the decades have accumulated into centuries, remnants of the culture and language of Scotland and Ireland have endured.
